Who We Are

Mia Shagena
Founder of Valkyrie Warrior Movement, educator, and trainer
Mia Shagena is a survivor, advocate, and Investigations Detective whose life and work have been defined by resilience and purpose. A survivor of both human trafficking and domestic violence, Mia brings a rare and powerful perspective, one that bridges lived experience with nearly two decades of service as a police officer. Since 2008, she has dedicated her career to protecting others and bringing critical awareness to the crimes that too often remain hidden in plain sight.
Her dual perspective, both as a survivor and as a law enforcement professional, allows her to approach these crimes with empathy, insight, and determination to create change where it matters most. Mia is dedicated to equipping first responders, medical professionals, and community-based organizations through education and training to recognize signs of trafficking and domestic violence, and to serve survivors with dignity and care. Through this work, she also walks alongside survivors one-on-one, helping them navigate healing and rebuild their lives after trauma. At the heart of Mia’s mission is a commitment to changing the narrative, shifting how first responders engage with survivors, and raising public awareness about how closely trafficking and domestic violence are intertwined. She believes that the loudest voices, joined together, can push for meaningful change. Honored to be part of this movement, Mia continues to use her story, expertise, and her platform to ensure survivors are seen, heard, and supported.
